My students need a listening center, headphones and books. Students will be able to listen to a fluent reader and practice tracking, as I work with small groups.
Remember running over to the listening center inside of your classroom to see what new book you were going to read and listen to? My students have a love for reading and love for listening to books on tapes and CD. I want to keep that magic alive for them with a working listening center and books.
My Kindergarten students are full of life and have an eagerness to learn.
They enjoy listening to stories and discussing them. As beginning readers, I want my students to experience and listen to as many books as possible. I want them to continue their love for reading throughout their lives. My students are from an inner city school that lacks resources inside of the classroom. We lack the resources to provide students with a variety books and the materials to provide them with different ways to read those books.
My Project
As a Kindergarten teacher, I have a variety of students on different levels. My students need small group instruction to increase their reading levels. The materials will go into our literacy activities rotation. My students will be able to use the materials to listen to stories while I teach students in small groups. The listening activity will provide students with another experience of listening to a fluent reader. They will be able to track the words in the story as the reader reads. After the students listen to the story they will be able to respond to the story with a peer. They will discuss the characters, setting, problem/solution and their favorite part.
My students would be incredibly grateful to have a working listening center.
They love to listen to stories on tape. This project will allow them to listen to books and increase their motivation and love for reading. The on-level readers will be able to read along and my struggling readers will have another opportunity to listen to a fluent reader. My students know that the more they read the better readers that they will become. This project will give them the opportunity to read more.
