Time to Finish the Year...and Think about Thinking
My students need 30 portfolio folders and 35 composition books to collect and reflect upon their second grade progress.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Research has shown that if kids write about their understanding of a topic, they remember the information more accurately and for longer periods of time.
I want my students to reflect on their 2nd grade learning through the use of portfolios.
I am a fifth-year, 2nd grade teacher in a Title 1 school...that means that my students come from low social-economic households.
Despite these challenges, the students come to school each day eager to learn and take charge of their education. I believe in empowering my students and giving them thrilling and motivating educational experiences that simultaneously improve their reading and math skills.
My Project
Throughout the school year, we have been filing away pieces of 2nd grade work that will show our hard work and growth in each learning area. With the end of the school year approaching, we will need a convenient way to organize and store our 2nd grade work in a portfolio.
The portfolio pockets are a perfect tool for 2nd grade students to store their work in a way that is easy to handle and access often.
The composition pads are like our portfolio's table of contents. They will hold our reflections on the work we have included in our portfolio. It is important that my students have specific reasons about what makes their chosen work great. Composition pads are a great way to keep their reflections organized and neat.
Becoming reflective, critical learners is a major goal of my classroom all year.
Our 2nd grade portfolios are the culminating project for the children to reflect on the work they have done all school year. Reflection has been called "the glue of the brain." Reflecting on learning makes things stick. Reviewing their school work for the entire year, will help their learning stick.
Don't forget!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
