Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My wonderful second-grade class consists of 24 eager students. Most of them are deeply motivated and truly enjoy learning, but some need a little nudge to pay attention. My students are curious and are ready to be challenged.
Our school is in a low-income community that serves a large number of English learners.
They come in ready to learn and work, but at times it is difficult to keep their attention. In this age, we are competing with video games and students’ attention spans are cut short. I need to inspire them to put their attention to technology, engineering, and coding.
My Project
The Dot and Botley Robot packs will allow my students to learn how to program and code while at the same time building on basic engineering skills. As they troubleshoot programming, they will be building confidence which will help them be successful. They will get their creative juices flowing with the included STEAM accessories pack.
My students’ amazing abilities will shine when given the opportunity to practice programming and coding with robots.
They will be able to work in small groups to manipulate the Dot and Botley robots. It will be an amazing life-changing experience for them to realize how troubleshoot can be so much fun. I will no longer need to worry about capturing their attention.
These Dot and Botley robots accessories will give my students the tools they need to be ready for robotics in their future years in school. They will learn that technology is an important tool that can make learning fun. Some students might even discover that this is a passion they didn't know they had and they will become the engineers of our future.
