My Students

Do you remember the weekly Scholastic and Time readers? I do! I remember how much I looked forward to learning about current science and social studies concepts

We are located in a middle class neighborhood.

We are about 40% second language learners and 40% free and reduced lunch. We have a variety of ethnicity's, languages, races and socio-economic levels at our small school. We do not receive Title 1 funding and although we have an active and supportive PTA, we do not receive a lot of extra monies to spend on supplementing curriculum. Our students are bright, curious, energetic and eager to learn new skills and concepts and will rise to any challenge put before them.

My Project

The Time Weekly readers will be a great supplement to our science and social studies curriculum. With the nation-wide push to be proficient in reading and math, science and social studies often get over looked or squeezed in where possible. The Time readers would be a weekly hands-on activity filled with current information that the students will be able to access and utilize to help meet the standards in science and social studies.

This project is important because it will get kids excited about science and social studies.

The Time readers will be a consistent hands-on learning tool that they will be able to take home with them at the end of the day. As a teacher, I will be able to access extension activities that will allow me to integrate the skills and concepts addressed across the curriculum. The more exposure the students have to skills and concepts, the more chance they will have at internalizing the standards.
