My students need TIME magazine. They have developed a desire to read! read! read! We would love to have TIME in our classroom library for independent and class reading.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Lawson's classroom raised $240

My Students
When you can't go anywhere, a book can take you everywhere. This is what I have instilled in my students. They have discovered the power of the printed word in a variety of mediums and genres. My goal is to continue to entice and raise the bar for their reading. So far,so good. They love it!
My students are a low income, free and reduced lunch population.
However, they maintain the highest standardized tests scores in our district. I attribute this to our interminable desire to read. They are sometimes a challenge both with behavior and academics, but in the end they are proud of their accomplishments and work hard to maintain their status in the district. It is my pledge to ensure that they are challenged as well as offered a variety of interesting material to read. I am so proud of their accomplishments. They continue to amaze me.
My Project
My students read a variety of materials including, novels and reference materials. However, the daily newspaper is often beyond their interest and reading level. TIME magazine includes non fiction that is age and interest appropriate. Students will be able to read this material independently. This affords me the opportunity to assign readings for homework and allow student to read after classwork is completed.
Reading is fundamental, but more importantly it should be fun.
TIME is a fun and interesting way to learn about the real world issues that students should/need to know about. My students are ready for the challenge and I can only imagine the excited looks on their faces when they see that we have new reading material to augment what currently exists in our limited classroom library.
