As a Title I school we work extra hard every day to learn and create and support each other as a family. When recess time comes it's time to let loose and have some fun together!
My students are like my family.
They are my home away from home. We have a large population of students receiving free and reduced price lunch as well as low socioeconomic families. We are a large elementary school with nearly 1,000 children yet somehow we all find a way to love and support each other.
My students need playground equipment for recess time. We are asking for scooters, dodge balls, jump ropes, footballs and a rolling playground cart to keep everything in! Recess time is the one time a day where both teachers and students can unwind together. We can play and interact with each other in a way that's vastly different from the classroom setting. It's a time for bonding and community building. The few recess supplies that are given to us by the school for recreational use are shared by 1,000 students. We just don't have it in our school budget to supply each grade level with the supplies we need for recess. Many of our students enjoy soccer, football and jumping rope. With 160 students in the second grade alone sometimes this just isn't possible for all students.
The donations for this project couldn't fall on more grateful students.
Many of my students don't get the opportunity to "just be a kid." As they get older they have mounting responsibilities at home to care for younger siblings and help take care of the household. Their families are thankful for the education they receive at our school and the opportunities they are allowed. It's a chance for them to explore and grow as little human beings in the world!
