My students need Time for Kids to improve their literacy with information text.

My Students
Walking into my classroom, you will find a diverse group of kids. Some of them have parents who try to keep them surrounded by a wide assortment of reading materials, but many have little exposure to a variety of books and magazines to read.
My classroom is in an urban environment, filled with kids from all walks of life.
We are a Title One school, which means we have a number of students who are on free and reduced lunch. I have a few students with troubled homes, which makes me work harder to create an environment where every child feels safe and able to learn.
My Project
While I have a wide variety of books in my classroom available for students to read, I am lacking magazines. I would like to expose my students to other sources of reading material. I am asking for a weekly magazine, Time for Kids, made just for students. It contains current events and other topics of interest for students at their reading level.
My students having access to Time for Kids will give them practice reading other types of non fiction literature, in a different format from a book.
These magazines will be used in class to teach features of information text, making kids more successful at research this year and into the future. It will also be exciting for them, because each week they will be able to take the magazine home and share it with their family.
