Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a Title one school in the South Bronx. The students are a mix of African American, Latino and some new arrivals from the Middle East and Africa. The school goes from Pre-k to fifth grade and over 95% percent receive free lunch.

The students in my classroom are all special needs students.

They all have individual educational plans (IEPs). They vary in their needs from learning disabilities to social emotional needs.

When planning classroom activities and conducting evaluations, I keep IEP goals and outcomes in mind. I also keep the IEP in mind to determine how to collect and evaluate student progress toward educational goals.

My Project

The Time for Kids articles challenge students as they master new vocabulary and improve their reading skills. Each issue includes maps, charts, and graphs to strengthen students' visual literacy and analytical skills. The articles are based on current events and are highly engaging. Student are able to make connections across curriculum and their own lives. The magazine provides support for below-grade-level readers, Special needs students and English language learners with TIME for Kids digital. Auditory learners will also benefit from the read-aloud feature.

TIME for Kids is an effective supplemental resource that supports the goals of Title 1, CCSS, RRTI, and other state and federal programs.
