Time (For Kids) To Read Non-Fiction

My students need 55 subscriptions to TIME For Kids magazine.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Hulsey's classroom raised $405

This project is fully funded

Hi! I am a first year teacher working to inspire children to become lifelong readers. I teach English and Language Arts (reading, writing, and spelling) to a wonderful group of fourth graders at a Title 1 school. About 50% of the students at our school receive free or reduced lunch.

As a new year teacher, I am constantly trying to find ways to meet the needs of the children in my classroom. Since I am still working on building my classroom library, there are many times that students complain that there just isn't anything they are interested in reading. I also require 20 minutes of nightly reading, but many students do not have books or other texts at home to read. I want their nightly reading to be enjoyable so that they are inspired to read even when it is not a requirement for school.

TIME Magazine produces a student version each month called TIME For Kids. Each issue is packed with articles relating to current events around the globe. The magazine includes a ton of excellent teacher resources for teaching language arts that incorporates science, math, and social studies. I am requesting a subscription for each of the students that I teach. We will use the magazines for reading comprehension activities as well as pleasure reading. The students will be allowed to keep the magazine after we use it in class so that they can build their supply of reading materials at home.

Your generous donation will ensure that the children in my class have high-interest reading material that can be used both in the classroom and at home. It will inspire the students, especially the males, to read more while also teaching them about current issues in the world around them. Developing lifelong readers is key to teaching children how to become successful adults.
