This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach fifth graders that belong to different backgrounds and ethnicities in San Jose, California. My students are enthusiastic, inquisitive, and inquiring learners who love to come to school each day. They are remarkably inspired to learn and do their best in school.
I teach at an exceptional, diverse, and distinctive school in California where more than 71% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.
I am requesting 30 subscriptions to TIME for Kids magazine for my students for next school year. I have been visualizing about using this material since my second week of classes. These magazines will help my students internalize all the Common Core standards I am teaching in class. Not only that, but they will boost their writing skills by analyzing different examples when reading these magazines.
I truly think Time for Kids magazines will be an essential tool I can use during my English Language Learners class, too!
It would be a way to teach them the meaning of the word "caring" when telling them to be careful when using these resources. In other words, they will learn to demonstrate knowledge of everything they are learning in class and apply behavioral skills when preserving these magazines.
Finally, TIME for Kids truly creates a learning tool for each student's independent reading time when they decide what to read and what to share with their peers.
I think this is the right time to use magazines in my classroom. TIME for Kids magazines will be the best tool to combine two important 21st Century Skills, which are
More than half of students from low‑income households
