Time for Kids Creates Our Future Citizens of the World

My students need 44 subscriptions to Time for Kids magazine to expand their knowledge of the current events in our world with relevant, high interest non-fiction texts on their grade level.

My Students

Do you remember the excitement of seeing Time for Kids on your desk when you were a kid? I remember it being such a thrill to receive a new issue every week. I want that same experience for my students.

My students are from a rural area in Florida.

They are in a departmentalized setting so they switch classes for each subject. I have wide variety of students whose reading abilities range from 1st grade to 8 grade. I have many students who struggle with reading because they can't find books that interest them and have become reluctant readers. Some of my students don't see themselves as readers. I want to change that. They need exposure to a wide variety of high interest literature to help motivate them to read.

My Project

Time for Kids will open doors for my students to access relevant, current events written on their grade level and with high interest. It will allow the students to gather in small groups and communicate with each other about their opinions of the world around them. We will be able to create rich discussions in the classroom and allow the students to form opinions from the articles they read.

Keeping up with current events is important for all citizens.

It helps us feel connected to not only our community but to the nation and the world. I believe this project will help my students feel more connected with the world and will help all my students see themselves as readers.
