TIME for Kids - Bringing the World to our Classroom

My students need 25 subscriptions to TIME for Kids to help bring the world to them.

My Students

Help me bring the world to my students. Most of them have never left the state we live in. Despite this, they are very curious and love learning about places and events around the world. I would love to expand their world with a subscription to TIME For Kids magazine.

I teach 5th grade in a Title One public school.

I have a very diverse classroom. I have students reading from about a 3rd grade level up to 8th and 9th grade levels. Some of my students come from homes with books, computers and other resources that enhance their learning. They've also had the opportunity to visit different places. But many of my students have not had these experiences and opportunities. I believe that education is the great equalizer and the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. I don't believe my students' backgrounds should define their future. All my students are eager and curious learners and have the ability to succeed. They love learning about different events and places around the world.

My Project

I'm requesting a subscription to TIME for Kids for my classroom for the upcoming school year. I've been using TIME for Kids in my classroom for several years. It is a great way to bring the world to my students. Every issue has something that can be used in math, reading, science, and social studies. I use it to improve reading skills, especially recalling facts and details and comprehension. Every issue has at least one chart of graph that can be used in math and science instruction. It's a great resource for social studies with maps and stories from around the world. I use it as a starting point for research. It will be an especially valuable resource for the upcoming presidential election. It will help my students learn about the election process and learn about the different candidates. Due to more budget cuts, my school will no longer be able to pay for the subscription and I don't want to lose this valuable teaching resource.

I use this magazine for instruction across the curriculum. Every week my students can't wait to get the new issue. This magazine will be even a greater resource in the upcoming school year as we follow the presidential election. Please make it possible that my students next year will have this resource.
