Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My fourth grade classrooms in Cleveland, Ohio are comprised of approximately 40 amazing students, many of whom come from bilingual households and receive free breakfast and lunch.

For my students, the consistency and routines that I provide in my classroom are what they rely on most in their lives.

The learning environment that I hope to create for my students is one that inspires them to succeed and supports them every step of the way. My fourth grade students come to school each day, often times bringing their home lives with them. I spend a great deal of time throughout the year creating a strong sense of classroom community. My students not only rely on me to support them in their learning and serve as a positive role model in their lives, but they have come to rely on one another through the positive relationships they have formed.

My Project

My students come to school every day ready to learn and work hard in order to do their best.

They are very curious about the world around them and how all things work.

Many of my students struggle with reading and comprehending nonfiction text. Time for Kids subscriptions and other informational texts will provide my students with the opportunity to be exposed to high interest nonfiction text. In addition, they often do not have as much background knowledge as their peers. They are in desperate need of high interest informational text.

The donations to this project will help improve my students understanding, comprehension, and confidence in reading informational texts.

These magazines will be used in my classroom so students can increase their skills and understanding of informational text. I am excited that they will also be able to increase their background knowledge. After reading these magazines my students will be able to transfer the skills they learn in my classroom into their other classes. This will allow my students to be confident and successful in all of their classes.
