Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a small Title I neighborhood school tucked between tree lined streets, just blocks from the freeway and busy city intersections. 85% or more of my students receive free or reduced price lunch. My class is a mixture of Second Language Learners, Gifted and Talented students, and Special Needs students. My class is a diverse group of learners that come to school with variety of experiences!
My students are curious, active and benefit from hands-on learning.
They work in cooperative groups throughout the day. They are very social and enjoy talking and sharing their ideas and opinions with each other.
My Project
TIME for Kids subscription, which includes Time for Kids Around the World, will be a great resource for my class! It will motivate students to read, and the non-fiction text includes real-world topics! This subscription includes a hard copy magazine for each student and a digital subscription. Students can access the materials individually, in small group, and/or I can use the projector for whole group discussions. Also, there are interactive whiteboard activities which I know my students would love!
Giving students access to current events will make the world smaller and create global awareness.
I plan to use the articles in TIME for Kids as another hands-on resource. My goal is to help students become aware of current events that impact their lives and how they can use their knowledge and voice to create their future.
