My students need personal subscriptions to Time For Kids magazine, which presents the news in an accessible and engaging format!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are creative, passionate and curious. They are also voracious readers! As fifth graders, they are preparing to leave elementary school and they want to know more about the world around them. They are passionate about current events and social justice.
Reading widely is one important way they prepare for the next stage in their development.
They are eager to dig into more challenging text and love nonfiction. They also love magazines and the idea of a magazine subscription feels so fancy and grown-up to them!
My Project
Every week, my fifth graders will receive their personal copy of Time for Kids magazine which they will be able to take home, share with their families and talk about with friends.
These magazines will nurture their growing interest in the world around them and prepare them to tackle issues that matter to them.
By reading about current events all year long, they will be better prepared for our spring Resistance Study, "What are you willing to stand up for?" As expert news readers, I imagine them deciding to investigate climate change, immigration reform, the status of refugees and wildlife conservation.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
