My students need Time magazine subscriptions to keep up with current world affairs.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day.
Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.
I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors of Donors Choose to provide these supplies.
My Project
Each week, I ask my students to do some "close reading" of informational text.
These Time magazine subscriptions would be used weekly in order to give the students in my class some high interest informational text to read each week.
I am planning on using this not only in the classroom but also to supplement homework.
I often times find that when students read informational text that is interesting to them and current, it gives the motivation to do the work. I am also going to give them opportunities to debate issues that are addressed in the magazines each week.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
