Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Being at our school for several years, I have gotten the chance to really get to know many of the students in the school, including those I have never taught. Many of them have gone through seriously adverse situations and misfortunes that impact their everyday life, especially their education. I am amazed at how resilient they can be, and how they push through to the best of their abilities regardless of hardships that affect them. Being a fifth-grade teacher has shown me how fast some students have to mature. I have taught their younger siblings in previous years (coming up from kindergarten and first grade) and see how they take care of their family. Each child that I have gotten to know at this school has my heart.
I want nothing but the best for all of these students, and that includes giving them hands-on experiences that will be memorable to them.
My students need to be able to feel like school isn't another one of their draining duties or work. I want all of them to enjoy school and look forward to each day in my class, whether in person or virtually. They truly deserve the best!
My Project
We have reached the midyear point of the school year and it's time for my classroom to be refreshed with some necessary supplies. Now that COVID is hitting hard again, I really want to do what I can to keep my classroom safe, clean, and healthy.
Hand soap, tissues, and cleaning wipes have become absolute necessities in my classroom more than ever and we need a refill ASAP!
Not only would I like to increase my supply of cleaning supplies, I want to continue to provide my students with healthy snack options since our lunch is so early and the school no longer provides an afternoon snack.
Lastly, new recess equipment will help increase activity during recess for many of my students. We aren't able to use the playground every day, so a refresh of sports balls will motivate them to get moving. My students will be relieved to know that we don't have to run out of soap every week so quickly, we've finally replaced the balls that got lost long ago, and they can enjoy a healthy snack at the end of the day.
