Time Capsule Transformation; Just in Time for the 50-year Reunion!

We need supplies to help us beautify an area of our campus that has not had any TLC since the Class of 1968 placed a time capsule there almost fifty years ago.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Stewart's classroom raised $498

This project is fully funded

About My Students

My students are members of the Class of 2019 and have decided that they want to spotlight the past in a very beautiful and respectful way. After the storm debris was cleared from an area that students pass by every day, it was discovered that the class of 1968 had left a time capsule concrete and tiled "medallion". The area had absolutely no living plant on it and had literally gone unnoticed for decades.

These students were excited to learn about the members of the class of 1968, and how similar and different school is now. The students decided that this area should no longer be dismal and vacant of life since our campus and student population are anything but, so they have decided to design the area to reflect those who came before them, and will be reminded of the school's tradition for years to come.

My students will collaborate together and research the appropriate types of native plant species that will thrive in SWFL. The 36 x 20sqft designated area will be around the Class of 1968's time capsule "medallion". Proper planning of the area will require students to know the dimensions and volume of the plants and shrubbery to be planted, as well as calculate the amount of soil, stone, and irrigation products needed to keep the area well-watered.

In Their Own Words

We want to make a dull, forgotten area of our campus that has historical importance a beautiful and reflective place again. Tradition is very important to our students then, now, and future students. We hope to have this project funded in time to present it to the returning classmates during their campus tour at their 50-year reunion in May 2018.

We will have three groups of students; plants/planting, irrigation, and non-plant materials. We will all help research the types of plants as well as help design the area. Each group will have one person designated to be the spokesperson for the group. They will also be responsible for scheduling their member's shifts.

This project is important to us because we want to keep the legacy of tradition and pride of being a Naples High School Golden Eagle alive for many years to come. We want future students to be inspired by this opportunity and keep the spirit of those who sat at the desks before us, to always remind them of how lucky they are to be a Golden Eagle. There are only two types of people in the world; Golden Eagles, and those who want to be Golden Eagles!
