Tigers Seeking Sensory Tools!

My Students

My TIGERS kiddos are hands-on, curious, and explorative learners who have different and multiple sensory needs. My students need a highly structured environment utilizing visuals, picture schedules, the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS), and the TEACCH program. Our TIGERS classroom has some sensory interventions already in place such as the above mentioned, which include work systems, work jobs, and individualized student schedules. The TIGERS skills instruction is focused on expressive language, receptive language, social skills, sequential memory, and organizing behaviors.

My students experience a range of sensitivities to different sensory inputs, which can make it difficult to focus in the classroom.

A student’s time in our classroom varies from staying in a special education setting for the majority of the day to spending time in a general education setting. Characteristics of a student who may benefit from the TIGERS program: the student has a developmental disability that significantly affects verbal and nonverbal communication and social interaction and that adversely affects educational performance. Students mat have irregularities or impairments in verbal and nonverbal communication.

My Project

Each of my students approach learning in different and positive ways. It becomes difficult for my students to learn when we do not have the materials for them to continue their learning effectively. In order to ensure that my students are continuing to take positive approaches to learning, they need to be provided with the tools that they need to succeed in our classroom.

They need a continually supportive classroom environment that meets their sensory needs.

My students’ needs can be met with choices that we currently can’t provide yet, such as soft seating options, a plain carpet (less distractive), wobble chairs, balance ball seats, wobble cushions, and light covers (to soften florescent lights).

These items will provide my students the tools they need to succeed in our classroom. Thank you for your support!
