My Students
My students come from challenging environments, where aggression is often the answer to many problems. All of my students have some type of learning disability, and some have emotional disabilities. Some of them have trouble interacting appropriately with one another and teachers and administrators. They have impulsive behaviors. These students have sometimes gone through some type of trauma, a divorce, or been the victims of abuse and or neglect. Our district is 100% free lunch for all students.
My students want to do better and make better choices, and they need support.
They need motivation. They come from high crime and poverty-stricken areas.
Basic necessities are not often a given. My students with special needs often feel as if no one notices them or acknowledges their positive behavior.
My Project
More than three‑quarters of students in my school are from low‑income households or one parent home. They often need help with basic needs; they just don't have certain items, and its not their fault.
Students having access to hygiene products is so important.
It keeps down bullying and isolation. Having these items can keep down teasing and make them more willing to learn.
Unfortunately, the community where I work at, some of the parents have a very limited income, therefore, I would like to provide the students with hygiene products like toothpaste, mouth wash and tooth brushes as well as deodorant. These things can make a difference when you don't have them. We have a number of youth that don't have access to consistent hygiene supplies or the ability to wash their clothes as often as they would like. These things that we take for granted will ensure they the don't get bullied or ridiculed in school.
This can make the difference for students academic motivation and their self esteem.
