A third of our students are special education students and we have a 100% free and reduced lunch rate We live in a very rural area of east Kentucky where there is little opportunity, no jobs, and high poverty. Our school is the smallest in our district and receives the least amount of funding.
I want to teach our students that they can rise above this life...this area.
I want to show that them hard work and good behavior doesn't go unnoticed. And I think I have found a way to make that happen...
My Project
Sometimes it seems like good behavior and effort are rarely rewarded. I want to change that at J.F. Elementary! We plan to create a "Tiger Paw Theater" decorated like a real movie theater, for excellent students to enjoy! Only VIP students (those with perfect attendance and no behavior issues for the week) will be "invited" for exclusive access each Friday!
Most of our students have never gone to a real movie theater.
I was fortunate to receive a grant to purchase a 55 inch smart television, bean bags, and lounge seating. I need additional funding to make our room look like an actual movie theater!
I would like to purchase signs, "VIP Access Only" covers for the entry doors, movie tickets, tables cloths and wall décor. In addition, I would like to have small lights on the walls to give the feeling of a real theater.
I believe that now more than ever we need to work together to guide our youth toward a path of responsible citizenship. Rewarding GOOD behavior is a way to teach children that their morals and values ARE important and don't go unnoticed!
