This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a force to be reckoned with. They come from various backgrounds and cultures. Most of my students have experienced more trauma and hardships than most adults at such a young age. Despite the circumstances of their life they show up to school eager to learn. I love that in my classroom they are able to be the best versions of themselves.
My first graders are multicultural and multilingual scientists, readers, writers, mathematicians, artists, and so much more.
My students are exceptional learners that come to school ready to learn in TWO languages, but in such need of more resources.
My Project
Our school has a STEAM night tradition that has a hugely positive impact for families from many grades. Authentic, hands-on learning at a nighttime event for families embodies our belief in curriculum as a means to engage young minds. In first grade we study the ocean and start the year off learning about tide pools. This visit from the aquarium brings the ocean to life in our classroom. Unfortunately because of budget cuts this year we might not be able to have it this year. Our students are always excited to show their knowledge of the ocean with schoolmates and families at our STEAM open house.
