Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from all over the United States although some have lived in this neighborhood their whole lives. Ninety-seven percent of students from our school receive free or reduced-price lunch, and many of them overcome obstacles just getting to school each day. Regardless of this, I continue to see growth, not just academically, but also socially, emotionally, and in their own family units.
As a fourth grade teacher, I really have a great chance to inspire and empower them to achieve their fullest potential and to set them on a path that will help them to succeed for the rest of their lives.
This is the year that they are tested on their ability to read without help and the year they begin more complex operations such as adding and subtracting fractions.
My Project
My students will be learning virtually for at least the first third of the year, and, as a teacher, I need resources in order to fulfill their needs. Last year, I was able to use Nearpod, an amazing service that allows me to create lessons on a digital format and to input games, questions (that I can track), and videos to learn subjects more easily. Students are able to reference Nearpod when doing independent work.
I am asking for these materials so that my students do not lose the learning they accomplished last year and so they can be competitive in the real world, even though they are learning virtually.
The Elmo will allow me to write on paper and transfer the written material to the computer which will be such a godsend when doing math word problems and writing/editing sentences in writing.
