My students need these graphing calculators for their Algebra I class. Having these will allow my students to take calculators home to continue their learning outside the classroom. They are rechargeable for optimal usage.

My Students
I teach math in an urban, public school in Rochester, NY. My school is a K-12th grade building where we encompass the saying "We are crew, not passengers". I have the pleasure of looping with my students. Last year I taught them in 7th grade and I will also teach them this upcoming year in 8th grade.
My students love engaging in hands on, inquiry based learning.
They see challenges as opportunities for their brains to grow. They are driven and are college bound. My students understand that learning does not only happen in the classroom. They are dedicated to transferring the skills and experiences they have at school to their home and community.
My Project
These calculators will be used by middle school students who are 8th graders taking Algebra I. Algebra I is traditionally a course taken in high school. Many of them are unable to afford to purchase this tool. Having this set of calculators will give my students access to a calculator to take home with them. The calculators that I am requesting are rechargeable so they do not have worry about the cost of purchasing batteries.
Knowing how to use tools is a part of the mathematical practice standards.
The use of graphing calculators starts in Algebra I. We will use them in our daily practice to enhance their ability to make sense of mathematics both in and outside the classroom. It is important to me that my students leave middle school comfortable with utilizing this tool to deepen their understanding of mathematics. My students will continue to use graphing calculators throughout high school and college mathematics and other STEM courses.
