My Students

Have you ever conducted a class activity using calculators and all of a sudden, one or two students tell you they don't have one? Either it is broken, lost, or the family cannot afford the instrument? Having spare calculators would facilitate instruction greatly.

Our school is located in a urban Louisiana setting.

We exclusively offer honors, gifted, and Advanced Placement courses. Our student body consists of 61% minority students and 32% of students who receive free and reduced lunch. The academic focus of our school has remained science and math since its inception in 1957. Many families do not have the means to provide their child with a graphing calculator or to provide another one when one is broken.

My Project

We are requesting two TI83 plus graphing calculators plus batteries, that will allow the students to explore relevant math concepts in multiple ways. They will be able to manipulate data in various forms such as graphs, tables, algebraic expressions, and geometric connections. And these calculators will last for many years and many students to come. This project is important in that it will allow students to experience functions and multiple representations in the real world while receiving feedback and instruction. The opportunity to complete these higher level instructional activities will equip the students to better perform in college and other future endeavors.

Making sure that ALL my students can learn is my primary goal.
