Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a second year teacher of 20 of the most fabulous third graders in the bay area. My class is so exceptional because they enjoy school and learning despite their many challenges. 18 out of 20 of my students are second language learners and struggle to understand our very difficult curriculum. The wonderful thing about my class is that they continue to have a positive attitude despite their home and school difficulties. I recently asked my students what I can do to make their school experience more enjoyable and the responses were overwhelming; they all would like to learn in a more fun and exciting way. Many suggested hands-on science experiments and others would simply like to supplement our curriculum with language arts and math games and manipulatives. So, per the request of my very bright boys and girls, I am asking for the help in purchasing some learning games, fun activity books, and hands-on science experiments from Lakeshore Learning. I feel my students will improve in math, science, and language arts because they will be able to learn in a less structured, yet meaningful way. Hands-on experiments and manipulatives are beneficial for all types of learners, especially second language learners and those who struggle with difficult concepts. Unfortunately, I have not taught long enough to build up my supply of manipulatives and hands on learning devices and there is no way our school would purchase such supplies as money is so tight that our paper is strictly rationed. Please help my class have more fun while they learn! Your generous donation will not only help my students this year, it will benefit many for years to come.
