Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our seniors are embarking on their senior trip to an overnight camp. They missed out on the school's traditional freshman year trip due to Covid-19 so we want to make this trip extra special! Of course, students want to take photos during the trip so they have requested to have their phones, but we also want to help them stay present for one of their final activities as a senior class.
We are asking for disposable cameras so that students can make memories in a meaningful and intentional way sans smartphones.
In contrast to their normal photo habits of clicking away on their smartphones and sharing intimate memories with their masses of followers, disposable cameras encourage them to focus their energy on being present and intentional with the photos they take rather than monitoring social media to see who is looking at their posts and how many 'likes' they are getting. We hope this will ground them in each moment of their trip. Plus, many of them have never used film cameras and will enjoy the opportunity to experience the joys of making memories the analog way!
