This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Remixing with new voices is creative practice"- Shepard Fairey. Shepard Fairey is current artist of many mediums; contemporary graffiti street art, graphic design and illustration. His artwork and printmaking skills would create interest and excitement in my students.

My students reside in a title one urban district.

All of the students are offered free breakfast and lunch. Although the surrounding community is extremely diverse culturally, many of my students have not been able to experience life outside of their city. My students want to learn, and they understand the importance of learning things that are applicable to their lives.

My Project

With these materials, students will learn about a current modern artist, Shepard Fairey. This popular "street" artist creates works of art that support social causes and express a personal opinion or view point. Students will be able to not only create an expressive piece of art work in a similar style but learn the process of printmaking and carving. The Balsa foam will help students understand the 3 dimensional aspects related to creating carvings by using the wire tools. These finished carvings will then be used to create illustrative art prints.

My students are very tactile and visual learners.

These supplies will be a great resource to inspire students to learn how to communicate their opinions, views and beliefs in a safe manner. These materials will excite them to learn more about the techniques and processes of printmaking and carving. Most importantly the donations will help my students to open their creative minds and learn how to share their artistic voice.
