Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are from a vibrant region in the state of Florida that takes pride in its rich, Latino cultural heritage. Because of this, our population is made up of many English Language Learners. It is up to us to make sure they get the best education they deserve. My students are young, ambitious and curious. They work together as a team to achieve common goals. They are supportive of their classmates and celebrate the successes of their peers. They are a hardworking group of students who display excitement and enthusiasm toward learning.

Our philosophy is: If you can believe it you can achieve it!

Our school is a Title I/Renaissance school. The majority of our students are from low-income families, which is reflected by our 91% free or reduced-price lunch status. Although my kids face socioeconomic challenges, they come to school everyday willing to learn. My greatest satisfaction is when I see students achieve at their highest potential because we believed in them and now I am asking for you to believe in them by supporting this project.

My Project

In this project I am requesting various language and reading instruction materials that will allow me to create an inclusive learning environment for my monolinguals. What better way to begin creating a diverse classroom that is multicultural and filled with acceptance and understanding than by giving monolinguals the resources they need to help them begin learning the language needed to communicate with and learn about their classmates. These various phonemic awareness, phonics, and sight word instructional materials will be used in small groups to help my monolinguals learn the language they need in order to feel part of the new country they live in. It will also let them flourish and share with their new classmates all that makes them special. In turn, my classroom will be diverse and multicultural.

If you don’t have a diverse classroom, you don’t have the same creative levels and I think our strength lies in our diversity.

I am also requesting playground equipment so that my students can play together because play has no borders and help children learn to communicate.
