This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Puedo leer y escribir en dos lenguajes. My students at the end of 2nd grade will be able to read and write in Spanish which is their native language and in English. This is a great task not only for me but for them as well.

I teach 22 native Spanish-speaking students.

They are open-minded and always willing to learn. Though they come from tough backgrounds and are growing up in a low income neighborhood, it seems like that never hinders their dreams. This year I will have a lot students that will require more time when it comes to the foundation in their reading skills; therefore, providing them with the materials that can help them is really important. These students might not have the help at home, so it is important that I meet with them and create more time for them to work on their letters, sounds, syllables in an efficient and fun way.

My Project

These materials are intended to help those students who require more help in their foundation of letters and sounds. The "Alphabet Game" which looks like a tablet will actually help my struggling Spanish speakers, but then it will be the perfect transition for my students that are ready to begin practicing English. The Boggle Jr. will benefit all students when I make the transition into English at the middle of the year as well as the other game. These games will be in my English center where my students partner up and practice English.

It is important for my students to be comfortable when it comes to transitioning to English.

The best way for my students to feel comfortable and confident is through games. For them playing is always fun that they forget they are practicing a language that they aren't confident speaking. Throughout the year and the fact that they get to practice in a form of play they begin to become confident and are willing to have conversations in English with others.
