My students need five Chromebooks for class work. We use Chromebooks for many things in my class including taking tests, doing research projects, and practicing typing.
Times are changing. Technology is an enormous part of life. If you walked into my classroom, at any given time of the day, most likely you would see my students using some form of technology. We constantly use technology such as a document camera, projector, iPads, and Chromebooks to help us learn.
My students love technology.
They are immediately more engaged whenever technology is used in a lesson or when they get to use it to complete an activity. They get so excited when they see the Chromebook cart we share with the rest of the school in our class because they know they will get to use them soon. I'm always surprised when my students know more than I do about the Chromebooks or iPads we use. Most of them are used to using technology at home so when they come to school they love that they can help others use the technology. Of course, there are still a handful of students in my class who do not even have a computer at home. This makes it really hard for them when they need to type their papers at home. This is why I love giving students a chance to do their writing and other assignments in class using the school's Chromebooks.
My Project
My students will use these five classroom Chromebooks for many things. We will take our spelling tests and reading assessments each week on them. We will do math enriching and reteaching activities from our online textbook as well as math games that reinforce what we are learning. We will use the Chromebooks to do Social Studies research projects as well as Power Point group projects. We will also use the Chromebooks for writing to do research and type each of our writing projects this year.
Right now, my class uses our school Chromebooks more than anyone else in our school.
Having our own set will let us use them even more. My students get more computer practice than pretty much anyone else because of how we use the Chromebooks. They are getting the practice they need to be successful on our end of year tests, specifically on our end of the year writing test. This experience with the computers will give them a much needed boost in their confidence on their end of the year tests.
