This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am starting my first year of teaching in the fall. My students all live in the Belmont-Cragin Neighborhood in Chicago. 95% of my students are Latino, and most of them speak Spanish at home. It is therefore very important for my students have materials to express themselves through art, and words, but they don't always have the resources to do this.

My students have the imagination and drive to succeed at anything they try!

Most of my students are still in enrolled in ESL programs. I would love to have resources to help them feel more confident in their bilingual skills. I want them to to be able to express themselves in every way I know they are capable of. They are excited and ready to learn!

My Project

My students need more supplies for the classroom to make learning easier. We use a curriculum where we are constantly taping data tables into our interactive notebooks. We use pencils all the time to write down data in our lab notebooks. During class we will review for quizzes with whiteboards and markers, so we need more of them to use on a daily basis. I don't have tables for my science lab, so our desks get really dirty from the science experiments. Having the wipes help keep us clean.

At a lower resourced school, these basic supplies, that are essential, can be hard to come by.

I need help in ensuring that my students always have the supplies they need. The paper will be used to make copies of the lab data tables for my students. And it will be used to create 2 copies of the textbook in Spanish since that is only available online right now. The pens will be used to help students edit their writing. These supplies will make the kids lives much less stressful, which in turn will make it easier for them to succeed.
