My students need a listening center with cassette and cd player, headphones, and an organizer for our materials. They are also are in need of updated books for listening.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our first grade classroom is a very busy place for learning. My students are very enthusiastic learners and thrive on being successful! We work hard every day on reading and becoming the best readers we can be.
Our school has a 78% free and reduced population.
Students do not always have the opportunity to have books at home so exposing them to a variety of literature at school is important. Learning to read at this age is significant. It is a time to foster the love for books. We build onto the foundational skills learned in kindergarten and see a huge growth in reading skills from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. Not only is reading independently or being read to important, but also listening to reading.
My Project
We do Daily 5 rotations during our reading block. One of the components of the Daily 5 is listening to reading. There are many benefits for students listening to an audio story. They can tell how the words on the page come together, they can hear sound effects, music, and many different types of narrators. This is very motivating for young readers. Having a working listening center in our classroom will be another aid in helping our students thrive!
This project will make a vast difference in the lives of our students.
My students love reading and anything that helps aid in their progress is very beneficial and will instill a love of reading at a young age.
