This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My wonderful fourth graders love reading - especially graphic novels, superhero books and joke books. They are caring, creative and hard-working. They are eager to fluently add and subtract. They love conducting science experiments Their eyes light up when they are engaged in learning experiences.

For many of my students, the classroom is a place to escape into a nurturing, supportive environment. Almost all of them come from low income households. Many of them have experienced trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school. Once they are in the classroom we work as hard asa possible to create a nurturing space that will help them live up to their potential and be happy, healthy and successful.
My Project
My fourth graders have a newfound awareness and understanding of the world beyond the classroom and they are on the hunt for books that will fuel this curiosity. They have expressed a particular interest in two areas - sports heroes and historical disasters.
My students are captivated by the I Survived series, books that transport readers to a point in history when their very survival is on the line.
They find this to be an absolutely thrilling way to learn about history and geography. They are equally interested in sports and professional athletes, and love reading inspiring and informative books about their favorite sports heroes. These books are chock full of the biographical details and sports statistics that my students are eager to devour! Some of the titles we are requesting for include Cam Newton, Side-by-Side Football Stars, and Tornado Terror, just to name a few.
