My class is unique in so many ways. Our room is filled with boys and girls from many different backgrounds that all have different strengths and areas for improvement. Our main goal every day is to learn something new while having fun.
So many times we're asking kids to grow up to fast and it's important that we allow them developmentally appropriate ways to express themselves and learn.
My room is an engaging, highly-active setting designed to meet kids no matter how they learn.
My Project
Everyone knows the only way to get better at something is to keep plugging along and trying. Part of what makes students successful is constant formative assessments with immediate and specific feedback. Most of the time this defaults to a whiteboard and marker to work out problems. While I love whiteboards for what they are, they end up costing a lot. The boards get old and worn out, the markers and erasers have to be replaced and at least once a day a nice uniform is ruined by a rogue black marker.
I'm hoping by utilizing some low-tech devices, students will be able to show me their thinking and quickly and without a mess, move on to the next problem.
These LCD screens allow students to show their work and answers. I can then check it (similar to a whiteboard) and with a simple touch of a button, their board is clear again. No mess, no erasers needed and a little more exciting for five and six years old.
