My students need to raise money for meals; we plan to grocery shop for breakfast, lunch, and grab and go snacks, but for supper -- a warm, family-style (no cell phones) meal.
What is the number-one fear? Not spiders, not natural disasters, not even clowns! The number-one fear is... PUBLIC SPEAKING! In spite of that -- this team of seven students from career and technical programs like masonry, nursing, cosmetology, vet assistance, and commercial art have done something quite amazing.
For the third year in a row, the LCCTC's Opening and Closing Team has won gold at the Pennsylvania SkillsUSA State Championships!
They represent the state of Pennsylvania as they compete on the national level in Louisville, KY (June 25-29, 2018)! All are school leaders, all are on honor roll, and all live up to strict attendance and high discipline expectations.
My Project
Since the start of the school year (and even before) the team's veteran members have been planning to make their own mark in 2018: to win back-to-back-to back state gold. With the addition of two new students, they have risen to every occasion -- all the while learning the values of confident communication, teamwork, and good sportsmanship. Once again, it has paid off because this year, they heard this announcement at state competition: "And your gold... medal... winning... team... in Opening... and Closing... Ceremonies... is... the team... from... LAWRENCE COUNTY CTC!"
Our next step: Get ready for Nationals; this means that we must continue to practice AND continue to raise money to help off-set expenses.
