My Students

There's a whole lot of happiness going on in my classroom. My students, although small in class size, are celebrating an important milestone. One that required loads of hard work, patience, and self control when it comes to managing their disabilities. What's the big news you may be asking? The entire class moved two to four levels on their reading assessments!

Often times I hear the phrase "teachers are superheroes", but for me, my students are the heroes.

Many of them have surpassed goals in their lives that would seem effortless to many. So when they do something incredible as it relates to student achievement, I want to be able to celebrate all of them! Since the beginning of the school year, my students have continued to make gains in reading. They have gone from decoding three letter words to using the proper strategies for decoding multi-syllable words. They have increased in their fluency and comprehension as well. Now, it's time to celebrate everyone!

My Project

Color Me Mine is a pottery store that allows the imaginations of everyone to soar! Students are able to choose a piece of pottery that reflects a story that has been read aloud to them. Additionally, they are able to paint the pieces using paintbrushes of all sizes while learning about the pottery process. This is an opportunity for students to strengthen their fine motor skills while utilizing a different medium in the process.

We may not be able to afford a bus to get us there, but we can definitely host the Color Me Mine team at our school!

Students who once presented with lack of printing concepts are now in their beginning reading stages. Students who were once only able to recognize sight words are now decoding words with isolated sounds and blends. There are even students who are now reading chapter books in class! It's truly amazing to hear the excitement and eagerness of students wanting to read in the classroom. I can recall a time towards the beginning of the school year where this did not occur. The best part is knowing that my students are excited to know that they have done well.

Color Me Mine will allow my students an opportunity to celebrate successes while still learning about the reading process. We are hoping that you are able to help us with our project!
