I need to take two online Professional Development classes to learn how to build positive culture in my classroom and build Financial Literacy skills. I also need the textbooks required for the courses.
My 6th-grade students struggle with learning on a daily basis. Integrating technology will give my students the motivation and confidence needed to build the desire to learn.
I teach in a large, diverse K-8 high poverty, high crime area school in Pennsylvania.
100% of the children are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. The children come to school eager to learn. They are from various living situations, such as single parents, foster homes, or extended family living. Most don't have Internet access or computers at home to practice skills taught in school. They have different abilities and I strive to build their confidence in what they can do, not emphasize what they can't do.
My students learn best by being active participants in their own learning. Sometimes they feel frustrated. Please give them a chance to engage in their education.
My Project
My students come to school with a variety of academic and emotional experiences. I want my 6th Graders to have success in all that they do. By taking these courses, I will learn how to change the way that my students think about learning. These courses will help me change my students’ mindsets and will allow me to learn, through data, how to help them become lifelong successful learners. With this Professional Development book and other online resources, I will be able to develop a culture that stimulates growth and self-awareness.
The culminating project that my students will complete is as follows:
Students are introduced to the concepts of culture with the culminating goal of working with a partner to create a mural and narrative that celebrates their uniqueness and commonalities. Cultural skills covered include: recognizing and respecting examples of cultural expression, understanding the importance of eliminating ethnocentrism, and discussing how cultural diffusion and assimilation affect societies. Building this positive culture will enable them to be better readers and better at financial literacy skills.
I hope to learn more about how to teach my students to manage their learning time and money. My hope is for the children to in turn teach their families. This may help end the circle of poverty that some of my students experience. By taking these courses online, I will gain Professional Development credits. I need the required textbooks to be the best student I can be. I will then be able to pass down this information to my students. Help me continue my path as a lifelong learner so that I can help teach my students about growth mindset and give them the tools necessary to become successful. They are OUR future savers, readers, authors, and teachers.
