My Project

During our Teen Teach-In Event my Personal Finance students at our high school will be going to the elementary school to host a fun afternoon teaching the kindergarten class about Financial Literacy. We plan to have stations in the two classrooms were the high school students will play games with the kindergarten class and finish with reading a book about financial literacy. Students will make money (fake of course), make decisions on what to do with their money, and receive a book and a piggy bank for participating in the day.

My goal for this project is for the high school students to learn about organizing an event, building a community with the younger students, and sharing their knowledge of financial literacy.

Financial literacy and personal finance content is becoming a buzz in our state. The earlier we can teach students about choices with their money the smarter they will be with it when they receive it.

My students are special because we live on a small island off the coast of Maine where the classes are small and Personal Finance is not often talked about in these children's homes. This event will be a super way to introduce ideas of saving, spending, and investing at an early age. My high school students are very excited to offer this day to the younger students but we are short with some of the major needs (ie. books, piggy banks, money). Thank you for your consideration of this project.
