This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are an amazing group of individuals who are overcoming hardships in life that some are lucky to never experience. These students are resilient and intelligent. Given the right opportunity and individual who would believe in them, they would meet high expectations and accomplish extraordinary feats.

My goal, as their teacher, is to encourage these highly motivated students to be the first of their family to attend college and pursue a career in science or high demand health field.

Some of these students will be the first to graduate high school and attend college. Barriers have been set for some of these students for years and school is their safe place; going to college would be an opportunity to break through those obstacles.

My Project

This project will allow students to participate in a hands-on fetal pig dissection, diving into anatomy. It is the first question each student has when they walk into the classroom and what they are most excited about. The students really love their dissection portion of biology class.

Through the dissection of these fetal pigs using a box of gloves for safety, students begin to realize the anatomy and physiology of their own bodies and the comparative features of all organisms.

Most importantly, they begin to develop their own interest in the life sciences and they recognize the opportunities available to them in the fields of health and medicine.
