My students need games to practice the financial literacy skills they learn in class, as well as rubber bands and tape to keep the game boxes together.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The almost 900 students at our school live in a low-income neighborhood with limited access to basic school supplies. We are a Title I school with almost all of the students qualifying for free breakfast and free lunch each day.
Although my students have limited access to resources, they are enthusiastic to come to school each day to learn many new standards.
I look forward to giving my students many of the much-needed supplies this year by asking the generous donors to provide these supplies.
My Project
Each year, I teach my 5th grade students how to create a "make-believe" budget. They have an income source, expenses, and they learn how to balance their household budget. I secretly like hearing them argue about how they can't afford car insurance or get irritated when they have to spend money on incidentals they weren't planning on because this is real life!
I would like to give my students access to financial literacy board games.
They will check out the games for the week and take the games home to play with their family members.
Since we have a limited amount of time in class to play games, I will have games available to check out and take home to play. Since most of my students are from a low income area and over half of them do not have access at home to the internet, I think these games will be a good way for my students to practice the financial literacy skills they are learning in class.
And why do I need rubber bands and book tape as part of this project, you ask? Well, from experience, I can tell you that these game boxes do not hold up as well as they should, so I would like to have some tape and rubber bands to preemptively reinforce the boxes before they go home!
Thanks for considering our financial literacy project this year.
