My Students

Teaching in a rural community is an amazing experience. You get to know each and every child, their parents, grandparents, and sometimes even great grandparents. Over the past thirty years I have been blessed with the opportunity to instill a love of physical activity in some amazing boys and girls.

A child's body does not know if it is exercise or play, but it definitely knows when it is having fun.

My students love to learn new sports. As rural Floridians, we spend a lot of time outdoors. It is imperative that the kids have the stamina to endure the heat most of the year. In order to build stamina, we "play". We "play" just about every sport you can think of.

As a Title 1 Targeted Assist School, we do not receive the same funding as full Title 1 Schools. However, our students need resources just as much as other schools do. Time and time again, our faculty and staff reaches into their own pockets to supplement our lack of funding, but we do it without hesitation because we love our students.

My Project

This project will allow me to provide MANY students the opportunity to learn the sport of tennis. My students love tennis, but currently we do not have enough rackets. With the addition of these rackets, EVERY student will be able to have their own racket that is just the right size.

Our students are eager to find out what new fitness activity we have in store for them.

My fellow coach and I spend countless hours coming up with creative ways to get them moving. With new vests and dodge balls, we will have them literally bouncing off the walls! They love to play dodge ball, but we also play a variety of other games with those vests and balls. Games such as four square and capture the chicken are just a couple of their favorites.

I am especially excited about the exercise cubes. It will allow us to do traditional warm-ups that are much more fun.

As you can see, we have big plans for these much needed items. With your help, we could have this equipment in the children's hands soon.
