Introducing Ozobot coding to my second graders has been a transformative experience. The students were immediately captivated by the tiny robots, and this engagement translated into heightened enthusiasm for learning coding concepts. Through hands-on activities, the children developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they navigated their way to the moon through code while describing Neil Armstrong. I noticed a significant improvement in their ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with peers during group projects. The use of Ozobots also enhanced their creativity, as they experimented with different coding sequences to achieve desired outcomes. Overall, this experience fostered a love for technology and learning, setting a positive foundation for future STEM education.","fullyFundedDate":1742921664845,"projectUrl":"project/coding-our-way-to-the-moon-with-ozobots/9146703/","projectTitle":"Coding Our Way to the Moon with Ozobots","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Kennison","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3463474_orig.jpg?crop=500,500,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1695930892878","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3463474"},{"teacherId":3084305,"projectId":9310109,"letterContent":"My students and I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every one of you. We have been able to access district-provided technology resources that were once very difficult for our little hands to access on district-provided laptops. The iPads have allowed our little hands to utilize big technological learning resources in a developmentally appropriate way. \r\n\r\nOur school provides excellent learning tools through our online platform. Waggle and Redbird and two of our educational apps tied into our district-provided curriculum. Prior to the iPads you purchased for us, our students had to open a laptop, type in all of the log in information, and use the mousepad on the laptop to navigate through the learning resources. This was too much for students to accomplish independently, so the laptops and learning programs went unused. \r\n\r\nThanks to your support, Waggle and Redbird can now be utilize by students independently on the iPads with the touch screen and familiar usage to five and sic year olds. In addition to Waggle and Redbird, we will use these iPads for Accelerated Reader tests beginning in January. This program supports listening and reading comprehension as students take tests on books and earn points. We will also use them for our Lego Robotics kits! The iPad app for Lego Education will power the Lego creations that we. build through their platform, bringing STEM education to life in front of their eyes!\r\n\r\nThank you all SO much! Little Spot has supported the social and emotional development of every student in our classroom through these fun and engaging picture books. Students choose to sit and read these Little Spot stories during independent reading time now, showing a love of literacy. :) \r\n\r\nAdditionally, we complete our first two week supply bootcamp challenge with the support of the On Strike book series. We read each story on the carpet and then completed a task to teacher the students how to utilize each school supply tool, one at a time. Once students completed the task and used the school supply tool correctly, they earned a badge on their crown. They were completely FILLED with excitement for these badges. As the teacher, I was completely filled with pride and accomplishment in teaching students how to utilize supplies correctly in conjunction with developing a love to literacy and fun characters in these stories. The statistics for students who are reading on grade-level are dropping each year, and a major impact is the fact that students no longer electing to read for fun. Novel studies introduce students to novels that they may not normally choose and shows them how to enjoy different genres and text. One of the novels purchased was a verse novel which introduced students to a \"shortened\" \"easier-to-read\" novel about a current topic (CTE). The students fell in love with the concept of a verse novel and students are now requesting that style of novel in the library. It is well-known that reading is the key to improving reading, so having students request books and elect to read on their own is a major win in todays tech world!
