This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach a group of "at promise" students who were pre-identified because they struggle in multiple areas, academics, attendance, and behavior. This program and class is designed to provide students with academic and social emotional support to be successful in high school and provide them with opportunities to develop their leadership skills.
My students tend to exhibit extrinsic motivation and tend to work harder if there are incentives and knowing that they will be rewarded with something tangible which is why I always look for opportunities to reward and celebrate their accomplishments.
In addition to celebrating my own students, I help with school-wide incentives and celebrations, one of which is Student of the Month lunches. 100 nominated students enjoy a fancy catered lunch with their teacher, take a picture with them, and receive a certificate. Decor varies by month or holiday. The tablecloths from this project will be used not only for the 2 upcoming celebrations; one of the themes for which is Never Stop Growing and the other is This is a Bright Bunch, but for future celebrations as well. I will write the student names on the stars and display them on the bulletin board paper from this project, placed on the walls as decor. The cardstock will be used to create student certificates/diplomas and the pens will be given to student to have as a writing utensil and as motivational reminders of their "awesomness". We have sinks in my classroom so the soap and disinfectant wipes would be useful in our classroom since students share chromebooks and eat during tutorials- these would make things more sanitary for everyone.
