My second grade class this year consists of 21 eager learners. I am in a suburban school that does not receive funding from other programs like Title I, making our school budget tight. Many of our supplies are donated by our PTA or purchased out of my own pocket.
Despite being in a suburban school, my students come from a variety of backgrounds.
While many come from privileged backgrounds, many do not. There are students with family serving in the military, students who are English language learners, and many more. We are a diverse group of learners. I hope to create an environment that my students can be actively engaged in and learn not only second grade standards, but life skills, too!
My Project
I'm looking to enhance the learning of my students with some extra supplies! The door bell will be used as an attention getter. When I ring it, students will be cued to stop and give me their attention for more directions. The dry erase spots will be used to show students "bubble space" when working at my small group table. It will also provide a space for them to write responses for small group reading and math. The laminator and sheets are so I can laminate math and reading center materials for durability to last longer. I plan to use the sheet protectors for a variety of things. They can be used to make a worksheet reusable with a dry erase marker. I also use them in take home folders as a place for students to keep behavior trackers, class newsletter and calendars. The paper will be used to make more books for students to use during Writer's Workshop.
All of these supplies will enhance the learning of my students!
