This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My first graders are full of energy and excited about learning. Some come from single parent homes or homes in which parents work more than one job. All receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status and we are a Title 1 campus. While these things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. My students strive to become global leaders, passionate about the world around them and strive to make an impact in an ever-changing society through the use of critical thinking.
Our school, and most importantly our classroom is a safe space where students can be worry free about obstacles they might face at home.
Although these students are economically disadvantaged they strive for their best and don't let anything get in their way.
My Project
Our school year has just begun, but there are still a few things we need to really get the ball rolling! While some items might be small, they make a huge impact on my kiddos' daily lives in the classroom! I am asking for two Chromebooks for my students to conduct research. Our campus has made it a norm for our students to complete research projects throughout the school year. These Chromebooks will help us meet that requirement! The Apple TV will help us with sharing our projects on the Smart Board from our previously donated iPads. I am asking for paper, laminating sheets, and Cricut vinyl to further help bring their projects to life. We will be able to laminate posters they make to preserve, pictures for their projects will be crisp, and we can add flair with fancy titles and labels cut from the vinyl! I am asking for sidewalk chalk and a ball pump to help our recess time become more interactive for my kiddos! They love using chalk to draw and duplicate what they've learned in class, such as writing their letters, addition equations, and so much more! The ball pump is to help me stay on top of keeping our basketball and other playground balls aired up and ready for them to use. These balls help with their team building and problem solving skills, as well as continue to strengthen both their gross and fine motor skills! Lastly, I am asking for paper trays, a stapler, and a hole punch to help better organize our classroom. An organized classroom is a classroom where students can freely explore and grow.
With your donation, I can better serve my students to provide them the best education and a very happy year in First Grade!
