This 2nd Grade Science Project Is Out Of This World!
My students need a variety of meteorite pieces along with a poster and book about meteorites to go with our 2nd grade science units on rocks, minerals, and fossils.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Marosi's classroom raised $205

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is full of future scientists including potential geologists. We need more hands-on scientific specimens that can excite my students and encourage them to stay in school and pursue careers in science.
My students are wonderful second graders.
Our school is located in a high poverty immigrant community in California. The parents of most of my students have never finished high school and my students will hopefully be the first ones in their families to go to college. My classroom consists primarily of students who are learning English as a second language. I also mainstream autistic and learning disabled students in my all inclusive classroom.
My Project
These meteorite samples will enable my students to really experience the science lessons they are reading about in their science and Language Arts books. The students will be able to use hand magnifiers to examine, describe, and compare each of the meteorite pieces. They will also be able to compare and contrast how rocks from earth are similar and different from meteorites which come from outer space. My students will also be able to learn and understand more about meteorites by listening to the story "How The Meteorite Got To The Museum" and by looking at the meteorite poster which will be displayed next to my science exploration table.
My students love science!
I try to make my science lessons exciting by bringing their science lessons to life so all students can be exposed to the science curriculum. I want my students to be able to see real meteorite samples that most of them have only seen pictures of in their science and Language Arts books. I want this project to help inspire my student's imagination and positively influence many of these students to stay in school and pursue careers in science.
