Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In third grade, students are no longer learning to read, they are reading to learn. My students each year show a love for reading when we have fun books to read together as a class. My school has 56% free and reduced-price lunches and over 44% ELL population.

Coming from homes where reading in English might not be a priority can be difficult when coming to school and being excited about reading with peers.

I want all of my 28 students to come excited and ready to read each day and feel confident in themselves!

My Project

My students will learn to love reading while we read chapter books together as a class. My students and I will read these chapter books and learn about all of themes within the books. We will be reading Charlotte's Web, which is about friendship and patience; One and Only Ivan, which is about friendship and loyalty; and Lemonade War, which is about working hard to get what you want.

Learning about being kind, understanding, and patient will help create a loving classroom environment.

I want my students to feel confident while reading these books and feeling a sense of community as we go through the books together.
