Third Graders Uncovering the Mysteries of the World

My students need 24 books for a science expedition on Natural Disasters.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Tilley's classroom raised $326

This project is fully funded

I am the librarian at an inner city expeditionary learning school, grades K-6. Expeditionary Learning is a method of instruction that emphasizes high achievement through active learning. Expeditions are in-depth studies that address a topic or theme. This year, our third grade teachers are doing an expedition called, "Uncovering the Mysteries of the Worlds Natural Events".

Our school has extremely limited resources. My library budget is $1,000 per year and with that money I need to buy books for 300 students. This buys approximately 60 new books a year! The average age of a book in the non-fiction section is 19 years old.

Our school would love to receive up to date non-fiction books relating to weather and natural disasters. Not only would these books help our third graders on their expediton, it would also help all our students since the books would be housed in the library. Our kids LOVE new books and the covers of these weather-related books alone would be enough for them to gladly pick them up and read.

Your help will enable our students to continue with their in-depth studies and promote active learning by using current resources. Currently, up-to-date books are essential for learning about topics that are happening today and effecting the student's lives. These 24 books will enhance my current collection and help make the teacher's job easier by having plenty of reference materials to choose from. Quality books are a necessity in the library, and with your help, I can provide them to our children.
