This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students love learning. They come in every morning with a smile on their face, full of enthusiasm about what the day in front of them holds. The most significant thing about them is how much they love their school. We are part of a school community where the school is brand new. The school we are a part of started a little over three years ago and my students were the inaugural class here. They are the first group of students to start the school and they are going to be the first class to graduate. They feel a certain pride being the original class here, they wear their school polo shirts with honor, and they love being a part of our community.
As wonderful as our school is because it is brand new, it is extremely limited in its resources.
Each year as the school grows, the students grow older, and a new grade forms. Unfortunately, each year that a new grade begins, we have to start over from scratch. My class of third graders is the first third grade class the school has had, so we really lacking in the resources that we need.
My Project
My class is an ICT class, which means there is a combination of special education and general education students. Because of this, my class is full of extremely diverse learners. I have third grade students ranging in reading, writing, and math levels to that of a kindergartener and all the way up to a fifth grader. It is very, very difficult to find ways to meet all their needs and all their different learning styles. I have students with varying learning disabilities and it makes the typical reading, writing, or math lesson very challenging. Along with this, I have students that needs to be enriched and pushed further than they think they can. Currently, we have extremely limited resources in the field of technology. Since we are a new school funding is very, very hard to come by. Using any kind of tablet is not an option because we have none.
Amazon Fire Tablets will open doors in so many ways for all these learners.
I can meet all their levels and all their learning styles with the use of this kind of technology. There are just an endless amount of apps that I can use for reading, phonics, and math skills at their own levels. I can offer reading and phonics in a way that I am not able to now to all my learners by using this technology. Furthermore, we can use the Fire Tablets in science and social studies. We can research topics, look for pictures, and watch videos. I would be able to expose my students to so many different things in so many different subjects in a way that they have never experienced before. We really need these Amazon Fire Tablets.
